KAJANG, May 26 — Police will call former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki soon to assist in investigations into allegations of criminal intimidation involving businessman Albert Tei.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said the investigation was being conducted under Section 506 of the Penal Code following a police report lodged by the victim on May 13.
He said police have so far completed recording statements from two individuals, namely Tei and his lawyer, who is alleged to have acted as an intermediary in conveying the threats.
Kumar said Tei’s statement was recorded in the same week the police report was lodged, while the lawyer’s statement was taken yesterday.
Preliminary investigations found that the businessman claimed he had received threats and intimidation from the former MACC chief commissioner while attempting to expose allegations of a corruption scandal involving several high-profile Sabah politicians.
“Further investigations into this case are still being carried out transparently, and the police require some time to complete them before any conclusions are made,” he said at a press conference at the Kajang District Police Headquarters today.
Kumar said the investigation paper was now in its final stage and would soon be referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC). — Bernama
